An advertisement is an audio or a visual form of marketing that makes use of a sponsored message to promote or sell a product or a service. An online Ad, like any other traditional Ad, is also a paid form of marketing. In this article, I shall share about Facebook ads to help the website owners understand the basics of this paid advertising platform. If you already own a website or a self-hosted WordPress blog, you can go ahead and create facebook ads account by referring to this article. However, if you are yet to build your blog, you should probably read about how to build a WordPress blog.
Facebook is the largest and the widely used social network in the world; the second largest being Instagram with 32% users across the globe, as of 2016. It is also one of the powerful channels that help drive good source of traffic to your website. Before I share some exciting things about this Advertising platform, I would like you to go ahead and create your Facebook page for your business or your blog,
You can refer to the following steps;
Create a New Facebook page
I am sure you would have a Facebook account already. Now is the time when you should create a new page, especially for your blog. Go login to your account and click on ‘Create Page.’
Now, you would be asked to choose between a business, a brand, or a community. Select ‘Business or Brand’ option. Click on ‘Get Started.’
Choose a Page Name and a Category
Depending on your blogging objective, choose a Facebook page name and a category. I chose the page name as ‘Learn Blogging’ and Category as a ‘Blogger’ from the drop-down.
Mention your contact information like your street address, while you can choose not to share your contact number. Now after you done with filling up your address, click on ‘continue.’
Add a Profile Picture
Adding on a profile picture creates a good rapport with your page visitors, apart from creating a better brand positioning.
You can go to Google and look for a relevant image you can use for your Facebook page. It is, however, essential that before choosing a profile picture, you check for the ‘Usage Rights’ by clicking on the ‘Tools’ button, located below the ‘Search’ bar.
Once the image uploads, click on ‘Save.’
Add a Short Description and Create a Username
Include a short description of your business or your blog, and create a new username, which can be your website name or any other.
Add a Button
Right below the cover picture of your Facebook page, there is a ‘Add a Button’ tab. Click on it and include a URL link to your business or a blog. That way you start receiving traffic to your blog from the Facebook users as well.
To create a button, you have to go through two steps;
Step 1 where you would specify the ‘call to action,’ e.g., if you want your visitors to contact you, shop with you, etc. In case you only want your visitors to come to your website, select ‘Learn more about your business.’
Step 2 where you add your website’s URL as a link so that you start getting traffic in the form of Facebook users.
Promote your Blog
You can also choose to promote your business or your blog. Click on ‘Promote’ button, located below the Profile picture, and start experimenting with various features in it.
You can also send an invitation to your Facebook friends to help discover your page, and they might share it with other people in their friend circle. That way, you would start getting more traffic to your blog.
Here’s the result of my Facebook Ads Campaign where I managed to get about 4000 Ad impressions for which I had to spend 234 INR.
Now, let’s take a look at a few of the Facebook Ads Guidelines;
Facebook Ads are a paid form of promoting a product or a service across the target audience, based on their profile information, e.g., age, gender, interests, relationship status, etc. and the demographics, e.g., location, language, etc.
With Facebook advertising, you can promote your page, posts on your page, or your entire website.
While creating a Facebook Ad, you set a budget and a bid per click, or per thousand impressions, your Ad will receive. Users can see your Ad in the sidebar on Facebook.
Facebook Ads are generally, not a perfect fit for all businesses. This platform is more suitable for ‘Promotion of a Business or a Blog’ rather than expecting a Sale.
If you are promoting a product or a service on the Facebook Ad platform, do not expect the FB users to go ahead and buy from you immediately. Instead, offer them free resources like an e-book or ask them to sign-up for a newsletter.
Like any other Advertising platform, first, you need to gradually build trust with a user who subscribes to your freebies, before you go ahead and offer a paid product or a service.
One of the Essential Features of your Facebook Ad campaign should be the Image that should ideally catch the user’s eye; otherwise, you won’t get the desired clicks on your Ads.
While you are just getting started with Facebook Ads, set your bid closest to the one suggested by Facebook.
As you keep on bidding, you will be able to identify the price you’ll need to pay for the traffic.
As your CTR (Click through rate) increases, the suggested price per click would decrease, which means you need to pay less per click, and vice versa. That is the reason why CTR is one of the most critical factors in a paid advertising channel.
Facebook advertising can be a great marketing channel if used efficiently with an eye-catching Headline for your Ad, Attractive Images, Clear Typography, Precise Interest Targeting, and so on. Start using Facebook Ads, and you would be able to learn the various concepts in social media marketing, by yourself.
